When You Want Support but Keep Taking Everything On
You want to feel supported. Yet when someone offers help, you hear yourself saying that you have it handled. When care arrives, you start thinking about how to repay it. When you want something, you explain why it is reasonable before you have even asked.
If you recognize yourself here, I want to get curious about what receiving means to you. You may be deeply capable and also ready for more room to rest, enjoy and be cared for.
What happens when you let someone give?
Imagine an ordinary moment: someone offers to take something off your plate. Notice your first response. Is there relief? An urge to take control? A worry that they will be disappointed in you, expect something back, or do it differently?
There is no prescribed answer. The point is to notice your experience before calling it a flaw. Your habits may make sense in the context of what you have learned about reliability, independence, love or obligation.
Your capability can have company
You can keep your ambition, discernment and standards while allowing trustworthy support. Receiving does not require making yourself smaller. It involves having choices about what you carry and what you allow someone else to contribute.
It also involves discernment. Support that comes with pressure, control or disregard for your boundaries deserves your attention. You get to decide what feels respectful and right for you.
Explore the story beneath the habit
Perhaps you associate being loved with being useful. Perhaps asking feels like risking rejection. Perhaps doing everything yourself feels more familiar than relying on someone else. We explore what is true for you rather than fitting you into a story.
In WORTHY, I use private hypnosis, subconscious belief work and my AURA Method to help you explore those associations and develop a self-concept with more room for your desires. We bring that inner work into everyday choices: expressing a preference, asking clearly, accepting care, naming your value and holding your standards.
Begin with a small, honest choice
You might accept an offer of help you actually want. Express a preference without adding an apology. Allow a compliment to land before returning one. Notice what comes up, and give yourself room to choose rather than automatically performing the familiar response.
These moments are personal. Whether you are single or partnered, you can explore receiving in friendship, work, love and your relationship with yourself.
What would more feel like?
More ease in your body. More enjoyment of affection. More confidence asking for what you want. More freedom to be capable and cared for in the same life.
